These three volumes (The Story Collector series) have been reissued in new paperback gift editions.

Each is stunningly illustrated in black and white on lavish thick paper with lots of space and a very large print size, a lovely design which makes them very suitable for sharing.

The collections reflect a range of cultures and origins, and Jane Ray cleverly links them and points out the connections between cultures, links between Aesop and African or Chinese stories for example. There are trickster tales, stories from Africa, from the Inuit, ancient Greek myths, Eastern European legends and some well-known poems. These are really rich collections. They are beautifully retold, and deceptively simple in language. The illustrations vary in size and are embedded through the stories. In each volume, it is a joy to see what she has included.

Jane Ray has written interesting introductions to each volume and also to each story explaining why she has selected it and pointing out interesting features.

This is a beautiful gift for any child to treasure and enjoy over and over again.
