Bertram and Alan are next-door neighbours and great friends but they couldn’t be more different.

In this beautifully illustrated picture book, readers see how the arrival of Pierre, the cat, doesn’t go as Bertram had planned; Pierre much prefers the messiness of Alan’s house to Bertram’s neat and tidy life. Alan helps out by giving Bertram things from his own home to make Pierre feel more at home and even gives up his sofa. This makes Bertram and Pierre happy but Alan is left in his house feeling sad and lonely. That is when they decide to come together by knocking the wall down and having half the sofa in one house and the other half in the other so they can sit together and enjoy each other’s company.

The quirkiness of the illustrations and the simple narrative will delight readers, young and old, as they see how embracing differences and working together can have positive outcomes.
This is a book which will be read again and again and enjoyed by all.
