This year’s IBBY UK conference will be taking place on Saturday 11 November 2023 at the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (London SE1 8QW).

CALL FOR PAPERS

Pages for Power and Protest: Children’s Literature and Politics

IBBY UK will be resuming our popular one-day conferences in 2023, our first since 2019 on the vital and wide-ranging theme of children’s literature and politics.

The conference will include keynote presentations and panels. Proposals are welcomed for parallel sessions (lasting about 20 minutes) on relevant issues relating to children’s literature. These might include but are not limited to:

  • Social class in the content of children’s books
  • Who gets published and promoted?
  • Whose (Hi)story?
  • Book banning
  • Protest and Activism
  • Power structures in publishing
  • Access to books

The deadline for proposals is 18 September 2023. Please email an abstract of approximately 200 words (for a 20-minute paper), along with a short biography and any affiliation to Ann Lazim of IBBY UK at annlazim@googlemail.com.

Please note that only six papers can be selected due to the size of the venue. Those whose papers are accepted will pay a lower registration fee.
