Helen Wang mentors Chinese translation project

The Centre for New Chinese Writing at Leeds University runs an annual translation competition. The 2018 and 2020 competitions were limited to school age students who had to translate a picture book from Chinese into English. The student translators were mentored by IBBY UK Honour book translator Helen Wang so that the translation could be published.

The English edition of the 2020 translation, Sleepy, Sleepy New Year translated by 13 year old Issy Hasson has just been published by Balestier Press (London/Singapore).

The competition was run by the Centre for New Chinese Writing at Leeds University and the Singapore Book Council.
