Daisy’s been living with her aunt and cousin ever since the accident that took her mum’s life. Now more sisters than cousins, and best friends on top of that, Daisy is shocked to find out that Nina’s been keeping a massive secret from her: a boy at school has broken her heart.
Nina begs Daisy not to take action against him, but Daisy worries more and more as Nina starts to post out-of-character videos online. Nina’s claiming that there are ghosts haunting her, but Daisy knows ghosts, she’s known them forever, and this isn’t them. As a child, Daisy had been connected to the Creatures. Unknown entities that could tell her about a person’s past, present or future if she simply asked. It’s been years since she’s felt them though. It’s been years of peace for her.
When Nina is accused of lying, Daisy rushes to protect her. She’ll do anything for her sister. Even calling the Creatures back to her. As more and more of Nina’s lies get exposed, the Creatures take over more and more of Daisy’s life. They fill the house with mold, visions of Daisy haunt her family in the night, what else could they do? And will Daisy ever be able to stop them again?
A chilling book by Deirdre Sullivan written in beautiful prose, this book explores themes of family, sexuality, identity and trauma. A story for mature readers that can handle difficult topics, especially once Nina’s secret comes to light.
