Evolution of the Eco-Warrior

We look forward to welcoming you at our upcoming conference for 2024. This year our conference will be on the theme Environment, Climate Change and Children’s Relationship with the Natural World.

This is planned for Saturday 9th November 2024 at CLPE (Centre for Literacy in Primary Education), Webber Street, London SE1 8QW.

The conference will follow our familiar format, with a range of individual speakers, panel discussions and break out sessions.

Speakers include Louise Ang, Sita Brahmachari, Nicola Davies, Neal Layton, Huw Lewis-Jones, Emma Reynolds, Lisa Sainsbury, Anthea Simmons and Ken Wilson-Max. You can see more about them by clicking here.

Newham Bookshop will be running the conference bookshop, a sandwich lunch will be provided and there will be plenty of time for meeting up with old friends and making new.

Proposals are welcomed for parallel sessions (lasting about 20 minutes) on relevant issues relating to children’s literature. These might include but are not limited to:

  • Activism and protest
  • Caring for nature – interdependence of human, animal and plant life
  • Children’s responses to the natural world 
  • Cli-fi as a genre
  • Climate change 
  • Eco-anxiety amongst children
  • Eco-dystopia
  • Sustainability 
  • Veganism and vegetarianism 

The deadline for proposals is 11th October 2024. Please email an abstract of approximately 200 words (for a 20-minute paper), along with a short biography and any affiliation to Ann Lazim of IBBY UK at annlazim@googlemail.com.

Please note that only four papers can be selected due to the size of the venue. Those whose papers are accepted will pay a lower registration fee.
