Beth is an author, illustrator and printmaker originally from Yorkshire, UK. She studied English Literature and German at the Univeristy of Edinburgh, where she was particularly interested in children’s literature and fairy tales.

She also fell in love with the Scottish Highlands and spent many weekends camping and walking there. In 2015-2017 she decided to combine her love of both literature and art by doing the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. It was here that she also discovered a love of printmaking. ‘Child of St Kilda’ is her first book and grew out of this combined love of the Highlands, storytelling, and printmaking. The book took 3 years of work, including working with the family of Norman John Gillies, the book’s namesake, and a trip out to St Kilda for research, despite the difficulty of reaching these remote islands. All the final images are handmade using monoprint and digital editing. Illustrations for the book were featured in the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition 2018, and the book was also shortlisted for the AOI World Illustration Awards in 2019 in the Children’s Book category.
